Surprising Visions

In the last “Adventures of Superbott”, while enjoying seven days of rest due to the R&R error, Clancy tried to crack the code that would allow him to become Superbott.  His plan is to pretend to be Superbott while working as a domestic robot for the Frank family.  Clancy’s internal 3D hologram informed him he already knows about his deceptive plan.  Clancy finished out his seven days of rest and went back to work.  Young Janey Frank goes missing and the whole family is upset.  Since an abduction is suspected, the police are called.  We resume our story while the phone is ringing.  Is it the kidnappers?

John ran to the phone and picked it up.  “Hello?”, he said, with his voice quivering slightly.  “Hello, sir.  My name is George Foreman.  Not the famous George Foreman, a different one.  I have an outstanding offer for you today.”  John said, “Um, I’m sorry, this isn’t a good time.”  “Well this will only take a minute or two to explain.  I don’t want you to miss this opportunity…”  John cut him off, “You don’t understand, I am in the middle of a crisis and can’t talk right now.”  “Sir, I understand you are busy.  We all have a crisis or two of our own.  Now let me explain this offer because if you don’t hear about it now you won’t get another chance.”  John yelled with his face turning a dark shade of red, “What part of I don’t have time to talk do you not understand!!  Take your special offer and stick it…” John stopped and quickly hung up the phone.  He said, “This is stressful.  Let’s get back to finding Janey.”

“Okay”, John said.  “Let’s look at this logically.  If we trust the security system, we know that no one has entered or left the property.”  The officer in charge said, “How do we know we can trust the system?”  “Sir, every camera’s field of view has been carefully checked to ensure all entrances and exits are monitored.  The rest of the property is surrounded by an eight foot tall fence with sharp spikes on top.  There is no way some nut got in here, took my daughter and escaped unseen.” John said in a stern voice.  “Please call me Fred.  With all do respect, I understand it seems unlikely an intruder could have broken through the system.  We still need to look into all possibilities.”  Fred wrote a few notes and said, “Before we do anything else, I am going to check out your property to look for a fault in the system.”  John said, “Well, you won’t find anything.”  You see, John is very proud of the way he has secured his home.

Fred started walking the property like a hound dog with his nose to the ground.  He wanted to eliminate the possibility anyone could have entered or left the property with Janey.  He checked the fence at the top and bottom.  He was about 3/4 of the way around when he noticed three missing spikes at the top of the fence.  Upon closer inspection, he also found a rope ladder hanging on the other side of the wall.  He thought, “Hmmm, the abductor sawed off the spikes and used the ladder to climb in and out.  When he reached the top of the fence, he put the ladder down on the other side.  But, the cameras.  Why wasn’t he on the cameras?”  Fred rushed back to the house.  He quickly gave the other officers some instructions and found John, who happened to be standing near Clancy’s charging station.  “Sir, there’s no time for anexplanation.  I believe your daughter was taken over the wall.  Let’s have another look at those security tapes.”

While John and Fred rushed to the security control room, Clancy let out a short gasp.  “Oh ,no!” he thought.  “The worst is true!  I have no choice but to become Superbott and save Janey!”  Clancy went through the procedure he did before until his 3D hologram showed up.  “Hello, Clancy”, he said.  “I’m glad you changed your mind.”   “Look,”Clancy said in a gruff voice “I don’t have time to argue.   I’ll become Superbott on one condition.  You will help me have a life with the Frank’s too.   If you don’t, I’ll trip the balance sensor permanently because I have no reason to live.”   “You wouldn’t!” the hologram said, his voice trembling.   “Oh, yes I will!” replied Clancy with a crazed look on his face.   The hologram knew he had no choice.   He would have to help Clancy stay with the Franks while also fulfilling his Superbott duties.   He knew this will not be easy since Queen Charise is quite demanding.

“Clancy” he said “You have left me no choice.  I will do this for you even though my instructions are quite clear.   I want you to know this could lead to my demise.  Queen Charise could remove me from you permanently.”   Clancy said, “Let’s worry about that when the time comes.  Now get on with it.  I’ve got a child to save!”  The hologram said “Becoming Superbott is easy.  You just need to take the Superbott oath.  Repeat after me: I, Clancy…”  “Oh, no.  You can’t trick me that that easily.  Say the whole oath and then I’ll make a few changes.

The hologram said, “Okay, fine.  I, Clancy promise to obey Queen Charise to the benefit of Robotica.”  Clancy thought for a moment and said, “I Clancy promise to obey Queen Charise within reason to the benefit of Robotica and the Frank family.”  As soon as Clancy finished stating the oath he started to change.  He became thinner and had a more human-like shape.  His metal frame grew skin and hair!  His eyes turned blue.  He grew clothes, including a bright red cape and a green tie!  When the transformation was complete, he looked himself over and said, “Not bad.  Guess I shouldn’t have waited so long.  Ok, Hologram, what now?”  The hologram said, “Now you need to learn how to use your powers.  Experiment, and if you have any trouble, just call on me.  By the way, you can call me Ycnalc for short.  That’s Clancy spelled backwards.” the hologram said.

Superbot replied, “Sorry, that’s too hard for me to say.  I’ll call you C-thru.  So you think I can learn the powers on my own.  This will be interesting.”  With that, C-thru disappeared.  Superbott tried out his new legs.  One step, two steps, THUD.  He thought, “I guess I’ll have to be patient.  I have to re-learn everything.”  Fortunately, no one heard him fall.  Superbott carefully made his way over to the security control room and quietly listened to the conversation John and Fred were having.  While John was explaining why the cameras didn’t show the intruder, Superbott looked intently at the monitor.

All of a sudden, he had a vision.  He envisioned exactly what happened.  He saw the intruder climb up the rope ladder, lift it and climb down the other side.  The intruder was a strong, tall man with an athletic build and blond wavy hair.  He walked up behind Janey who was playing on the swing set and put a cloth over her face.  She fell asleep.  Then he tied her hands and hooked them over his shoulders.  He climbed up the ladder, pulled it up and let it down on the other side and then climbed down.

Just then, John and Fred headed toward the door.  Superbott shook his head to snap out of the vision and immediately began to sweat in fear of being discovered.  The sweat was not human sweat.  In reality it was a special substance that made him invisible.  Superbott didn’t know this at first.  He stood with his back against the wall, frozen in fear and in plain view of John and Fred.  When he realized John and Fred didn’t see him, he knew he had become invisible.  John and Fred were standing right in front of him when Jill arrived.  The three of them walked off and Superbott breathed a sigh of relief.   He carefully walked toward the front door wobbling all the way.  (He was still getting used to his new legs.)  He walked along the fence and found the place where Janey was taken.  He stared up at the missing spikes and snapped into another vision…

Will Superbott see what happened to Janey?  Can he save her before the kidnapper hurts her?  Will he learn how to use his new powers to their fullest?  Can he keep his transformation a secret from the Franks?  Find out in my next post…
